Discussion session: How to talk about memory and trauma through film | TAIFAS

Contrasens in partnership with HEI (House of European Institutes), invites you to a discussion that explores the potential of cinema in addressing trauma and memory.

Trauma has been a recurrent theme in cinema, reflecting its profound impact on human experiences. Filmmakers have delved into the intricate nature of trauma, exploring its origins, manifestations, and the complex journey toward healing. In the context of film education, cinema offers a platform to explore the historical context of collective trauma, the psychological nature of personal trauma and offers a critical lens to discuss societal norms, prejudices and systemic problems. At the same time, film in itself has a therapeutic potential. It can serve as a starting point for conversations about personal experience and it can foster empathy and understanding.

Guests: Vera Herold (Cinemateca Portuguesa Lisbon), Isabelle Bourdon (Educational Coordinator CinEd), Mircea Dragu (psychotherapist, children's book author)
