Free Fashion: A working day in a Fast Fashion factory!

Note: Visits for students can be scheduled until 4 pm each day, when the exposition opens to the general public .

The clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries, with a significant environmental, social, psychological and cultural impact.

If you are concerned about this topic or intrigued to learn more, we invite you to experience a day in a Fast Fashion factory.

Our Fast Fashion factory is under construction, in a village in Banat, but it will not aim to bring to the market collections upon collections of clothes at a ridiculous price and with an enormous cost of resources.

Carina Iasmina Bălan, artist, designer and entrepreneur in the field of sustainable fashion, retired to Livezile, near Deta, and worked on the interactive artistic installation through which she transposes us into the lesser-known interior of the fashion industry: she invites us to live the experience of a worker from such a factory.

Carina Iasmina Bălan won the call for artistic production organized by CRIES - the Resource Center for Ethical & Solidarity Initiatives to draw attention to the environmental issue and the social impact of the clothing industry, and consumer fashion or Fast Fashion, in particular among the young.

Carina's work, "Free Fashion", will be publicly exhibited in Timișoara, at Reciproc Café, between April 23-26, 2024

If you are a teacher and want to organize group visits with students, we invite you to check the schedule with the available timetable and register.

The Culture of Sustainability in the Schools of Timisoara, a project implemented by the CRIES Association - Resource Center for Ethical Initiatives and Solidarity, continues with a practical foray into the world of Fast Fashion.

19 project proposals were centralized within the "Fashion Trash / Behind FASHION" call, and the jury formed by Cristiana Bucureci, Cosmin Nasui and Eduard Jakabházi awarded the highest score to the project proposed by Carina Bălan - "Free Fashion". She benefits from a budget of 8,000 lei, to put her idea into practice: the creation of an interactive artistic installation, where the public, once inside, will live the experience of a worker from the lesser-known interior of Fast Fashion".

The work is publicly exhibited in Timișoara, at Reciproc Café în the Bastion, starting from April 23, until April 26 inclusive. There will be four days in which the students of schools and high schools in Timișoara will have the opportunity to step into the Fast Fashion factory thanks to this artistic installation, to reflect on the working conditions in this industry and to be aware of the impact of their own consumption decisions.

We invite you to participate in the press conference organized on this occasion, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m., at  Reciproc Café.

This project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara European Capital of Culture in the year 2023" and is financed by the Power Station+ program | Creative schools, run by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
