The exhibition is a visual journey into a queer novel. It starts from the first bildungsroman in the history of literature that follows the story of becoming a lesbian: “The Scorpion” (Der Skorpion) published by Anna Elisabet Weirauch (1887, Galați - 1970, Berlin) and documents through the story of the book.
The project is built on two perspectives, a historical, documentary core that introduces the novel, the author’s biography and the context in which she lived, as well as a selection of contemporary artworks that intersect the main themes of the novel. The selection of contemporary artwork intersects the themes of the novel: healing nature, lesbian love, the pathologizing of lesbian sexuality, the space of childhood, the passion for literature written by women, and the mysterious motive of the scorpion. In the novel, the snuff box with scorpions appears at the climax, being linked in the narrative to love and death, just like the meaning of the scorpion.
