A unique exhibition featuring works of art that illustrate houses from famous films can be seen at Timis Cinema during the 11th edition of the Ceau, Cinema! Festival.
The works are by Bulgarian artist Boryana Ilieva, a.k.a. Floor Plan Croissant. The exhibition, entitled “Houses in Films,” is organized through a partnership between the Lipoplast company from Timisoara, the Floor Plan Croissant project from Bulgaria, and Ceau, Cinema!
The exhibition’s opening will take place on Wednesday, July 17, at 5:30 p.m., in the artist’s presence, before the opening gala of Ceau, Cinema! Boryana Ilieva will also hold a presentation in English on Thursday, July 18, at 6:00 p.m., explaining her creative process. Admission is free.
The exhibition consists of works made in watercolor and representing home interiors from 12 iconic films, including “All That Jazz” (1979, dir. Bob Fosse), “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999, dir. Stanley Kubrick), “The Matrix” (1999, dir. Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski), “Call Me By Your Name” (2017, dir. Luca Guadagnino), “Parasite” (2019, directed by Bong Joon Ho) and “Poor Things” (2023, dir. Yorgos Lanthimos).
On the occasion of the exhibition, “Parasite”, winner of the Palme d’Or trophy at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best Film, will have a special screening on Friday, July 19, at 4:30 p.m., at Timis Cinema. Tickets are available on the cinema’s website.
Boryana Ilieva is the creator of Floor Plan Croissant, where she paints intimate watercolour surveys of the residential spaces in her favourite films. Coming from an architecture background, she worked for years as an architect in her native Bulgaria before devoting herself entirely to her artistic investigations of cinematic architecture.
Today, she has painted more than 100 film interiors. Her work is owned by a handful of the industry’s biggest creators, among which Eugenio Caballero (production designer of “Roma”), Hugh Bateup (art director of “The Matrix”), Jean Rabasse (production designer of “The Dreamers”), Jean-Vincent Puzos (production designer of “Amour”), Ra Vincent (production designer of “Jojo Rabbit”) and directors Taika Waititi, Kogonada and Pawel Pawlikowski.
