I STARTED TO SEE THE COLOURS
Naive Art Exhibition
October 21 - November 10, 2024
Caransebeș County Museum of Ethnography and the Border Regiment
Opening: Monday, October 21, 2024, at 1:00 PM
"I Started to See the Colours" is a naive art exhibition presented at the Caransebeș County Museum of Ethnography and the Border Regiment. The works on display do not aim to provide a historical or explanatory compendium but rather trace themes central to naive art: work, nature, family, leisure, religious holidays, and traditions—all depicted straightforwardly, without attempting any critical analysis of reality. What we see is represented exactly as it appears and is not meant to be questioned. The intention is clear: to create for an audience and communicate with it, to narrate daily life and events, as well as to document and archive significant community events. Furthermore, according to Plato's theory, art is an imitation of reality, the original, nothing more, which naive painting undoubtedly achieves, despite some technical limitations. Everything is as it seems: short narratives without obscurity or complexity, with the eye engaged only by the direct encounter with numerous colors and characters.
