Sustainable design workshop with Lola Lely

Timisoara has a long history of object design and production. As part of the Circular Catalysts exhibition, we explore the role of women in these creative processes alongside maker Lola Lely.

The HEI - House of European Institutes team invites female creators, contemporary craftswomen and product designers from Timișoara to a workshop on sustainable creative practices.

Deadline to apply for: 7th July

Lola Lely is an experienced interdisciplinary designer with a clear vision of sustainability who visited Romania for a week in April 2023 to take part in the Circular Catalysts residency. Together with Patzaikin, she explored the landscape, people and traditions of the Danube Delta. In Timisoara, she comes to share and reflect her ideas and observations on Romania's craft potential and to support creative women to strengthen their practices and invest in a sustainable design framework.

We aim to explore together the city's creative traditions and discover contemporary areas of design that local resources and landscape can facilitate. How do we think about a circular production chain? What does it mean to be sustainable in a world of rapid design?

The workshop is open to any woman in Timisoara who practices a craft, makes objects or does product design.

This event is part of the Circular Catalysts community engagement programme, which explores the potential of craft for sustainable development and community well-being. Lola Lely participated in a creative residency as part of Circular Catalysts, a programme aimed at generating new collaborations between Romanian and British designers, artists and craftspeople and facilitating fertile conversations around sustainable production practices and processes, launched by the British Council Romania in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute.
