The SPACE Signs Cosmoteque

The exhibition brings to the attention of the general public novel subjects and objects, some unique and almost unknown even on a global level, selected by Alec Bartos, president of the Astrophilately Commission of the Romanian Philatelic Federation and member co-opted of the astrophilately section of the International Philatelic Federation (FIP).

The NGO ”Initiative in Education” together with the National Museum of Banat invites you to the opening of the The SPACE signs Cosmoteque exhibition, on Wednesday, October 4, from 5 pm!

The exhibition is composed of three relatively distinct exhibits, but with interconnected and common elements.

Exhibit I includes the models of space-themed stamps made by Alec Bartos over the years for the Romanian Post.

Exhibit II includes a collection of astrophilately awarded repeatedly with Big Gold and "Best in the class" at international philatelic competitions at the FIP (Fédération Internazionale de Philatélie) level.

The third exhibit sums up Alec Bartos' personal selection of historical objects related to outer space.

The last two exhibits, carefully created over the course of almost four decades, present historical pieces, many of them unique in the world, including some that will be presented for the world premiere.

Along with documents marking the stages of the conquest of space, vintage newspapers, badges, medals, old books, emblems of space missions, those who will step on the threshold of the exhibition will have the opportunity to see and learn about the difference between water for cosmonauts and that for astronauts, to learn the history of the Baikonur cosmodrome (from where the only Romanian cosmonaut, Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu, began his journey into space) through a suite of unique objects. The latter are the pieces of resistance of the third collection, surprise exhibits and for the first time in a museum in the world!

Children will be able to enjoy a mini collection of older and newer toys, of course also with a space theme.

The exhibition will be open to the public from October 4 to November 27, 2023 and will host guided tours, events and educational workshops for students, teachers and the entire Timișoara community.
