What Happens After the Year of the European Capital of Culture?

The Year of the European Capital of Culture generated in Timişoara an effervescence of cultural life unprecedented in the city, through art exhibitions that brought Timişoara to the attention of the world, through grandiose opera and philharmonic performances, through international theater festivals, which filled I refuse museums, theatres, opera houses, philharmonic halls, through countless and extremely diverse artistic activities that have littered Timişoara from the center to the outskirts. This cultural effervescence and, above all, the impeccable quality of some of the flagship events of the Cultural Capital, certainly increased the public's expectations.

What follows, however, after the Year of the European Capital of Culture, when the funds intended for culture will no longer be (so) generous, as in 2023? What can the people involved in the organization and coordination of the cultural and artistic events of 2023 - which play an essential role on the city's cultural scene and, in the current context, on the regional cultural scene - do to keep alive the interest of the largest possible audience? for art, for culture?

At the end of this year, in which Timişoara played its role as the European Capital of Culture, seven of the representative actors for the Timişoara cultural environment, people who were involved in the organization and coordination of cultural events from 2023, but without having been in the spotlight spotlights, they are invited to a debate - an event at which the public interested in the cultural life of Timişoara is also expected - about how they see the cultural life of Timişoara after 2023, about the continuation of some of the projects of the Cultural Capital.

Guests:

  • Ovidiu Andriş, director of the "Banatul" Philharmonic from Timisoara
  • Balázs Attila, the director of the Hungarian State Theater "Csiky Gergely" in Timisoara
  • Ada Hausvater, director of the "Mihai Eminescu" National Theater in Timisoara

The debate will take place in the Auditorium of the "Eugen Todoran" Central University Library in Timisoara.

The event is moderated and organized by journalist Melania Cincea, as part of the project "People Behind the Scenes of Timisoara, European Capital of Culture".

This project was carried out with the support of an Energie! Creative Grant awarded by the Municipality of Timișoara, through the Center for Projects, within the Power Station component of the National Cultural Programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in the year 2023".
