The Association of Hungarian Folk Dance Romania was founded in 1991. It is an elite organization of professional and non-professional ensembles, functioning as an umbrella organization with 50 members, legal entities. The association carries out dance and folk music courses, traditional festivals, organizing meetings in the field of choreographic folklore. The association accesses funding by running folklore projects, organizes festivals and courses every year.

The association carries out mutual support actions within the organization, edits professional publications. The purpose of the association is to preserve the traditional cultural values of Transylvania, organizing and supporting actions and events that contribute, directly or indirectly, to the protection and promotion of authentic musical and choreographic folklore. The association provides help to pedagogues, instructors and all those interested in popular culture.

The association archives and publishes the dance and folk music registered during a half of century on the Roots in Our Moves website, with processed collections with a total duration of 200 hours being accessible for free. In 2018, the Association launched the Database of Transylvanian folk dance project, the goal being the creation of video recordings with experienced dancers, masters in the execution of suites, of dances specific to some regions, as well as their teaching method.
