Aquatic Worlds, Dreams in the Desert

Culture Quest, now in its third year, aims to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and offer new experiences and opportunities for experimentation, promoting critical thinking and creativity.

ACVACTIC WORLDS, DREAMS IN THE DESERT  – this year's program will take place from July to October 2024 in various locations around Timișoara: the Indecis artist-run space Bastion 3, along the banks of the Bega River, and in the city's surroundings – the marshlands and Satchinez Ornithological Reserve, as well as the SEPALE Bird Sanctuary.

In a world where we still have access to water, though many of us do not benefit from this privilege, and where desertification is rapidly advancing, we ask ourselves what solutions and mechanisms we could use both in our daily lives and within this year's program. Art and science play crucial roles in this equation, acting as tools for awareness and social change. Through the arts, we explore the emotion and beauty of nature in a way that inspires and provokes critical thinking. Science, on the other hand, provides us with the tools and knowledge necessary to better understand the problems and threats facing our world. Together, they can cultivate a proactive and empathetic perspective towards the environment and the non-human beings with whom we share this planet.

The new edition is aimed at a diverse audience, ranging from 12 to 99+ years old, with a program that brings together science, ecology, and art. We invite participants to collaborate with biologists, artists, and specialists from bird sanctuaries, and we offer a guided walk along the banks of the Bega River, a research expedition through the Satchinez Ornithological Reserve, interdisciplinary workshops, debates, and a series of activities for children.

Through multiple scientific, fantastical, and artistic lenses, Culture Quest aims to highlight Timișoara's natural heritage, raise awareness about climate change, and encourage collaboration and the exchange of ideas between different generations. The program promotes harmonious coexistence with the environment and non-human beings.

The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, carried out by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture's budget.
