DINAM Contemporary Dance Season - 4th edition

DINAM Contemporary Dance Season, organized by Unfold Motion together with the Timiș County Youth Foundation, the French Institute in Timișoara, Basca Theater, and Iulius Town, will take place in Timișoara between 6-31 October 2024, marking the 4th edition of this cultural initiative. The project was born out of the desire to offer both the Timișoara audience (and beyond) and professionals in the performing arts field an annual and regular context for engaging with contemporary dance and related events. This initiative is motivated by the fact that contemporary dance is a form of expression enjoying notoriety in Western international spaces (to which we adhere) and has developed at a sustained pace over the past 10 years in Timișoara through the work of choreographers, dancers, and performers who have contributed and continue to contribute to the development of this sector.

In 2024, the season will feature 8 contemporary dance performances, 7 "Meet the artist/Sharing practices" workshops, 8 Q&A sessions, and the screening of 2 dance films at Youth House, Basca Theatre and Iulius Town. The three local productions ("The Story of Lost Stories," "Influences," "Vulnus—the quality of being easily hurt") are part of Unfold Motion’s repertoire and are created by 3 choreographers from three different generations: Lavinia Urcan, Antonia Itineanț, and Beatrice Tudor—3 artists who significantly contribute to the development of contemporary dance in Timișoara. The two national productions are created by the collectives Contemporary Creative Dreamers—Bucharest ("The Oasis of Fools" – choreography: Daniel Dragomir) and NON—Center for Performing Arts—Cluj Napoca ("404: Noise" – choreography: Roxana Florescu). The three international productions titled "Re Garde," "Diveresely Typical," and "Carmen" are signed by the companies Cie MF (France) and Moveo Dance Company (Malta).

The main objectives of the season are: educating, cultivating, and building a loyal audience for dance, promoting local, national, and international artists, and maintaining the local cultural offer of the only dance season in the western part of the country and one of the few of its kind in Romania. DINAM Dance Season is a product of the Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture Cultural Program. Thus, we continue the initiative started in 2021, aiming to make contemporary dance, year by year, a beloved, accessible, and sought-after artistic genre by the Timișoara audience.

The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, carried out by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture's budget.
