The project "Levintza - a different Revolution" which will take place this fall in Timișoara, aims to celebrate 35 years since the Romanian Revolution of 1989 in a new way, by evoking two emblematic figures, the fashion designer and the costume creator of theater - Doina Levintza and the internationally renowned Italian visual artist Piero Marsilli Libelli - who created together, between December 1989 and May 1990, a bold photographic and stylistic project that will be revealed for the first time to the public in Romania in 2024 on the occasion of this event.
The project offers to the Timișoara public audience an exhibition that contains a series of images with a strong artistic impact taken by the Italian photographer in various emblematic locations in Bucharest in which, in counterpoint, characters appear wearing Doina Levintza's clothing creations. The exhibition will also include a series of photographs taken by young visual artists from Timișoara who will build a photographic project that includes Doina Levintza's current creations captured in representative locations in Timișoara, as well as other clothing creations signed by young artists. The project includes the premiere of a thematic documentary, the development of a catalog, debates with specialists in the field of art and history as well as two masterclasses offered by Doina Levintza and Piero Marsilli Libelli whose main themes will be "Fashion and revolution - an alternative approach to the city space ” and “Photography as a spectacle of history”.
The LEVINTZA - A DIFFERENT REVOLUTION project run by Rock House Events in partnership with the "Doina Levintza" Foundation will take place in several emblematic locations in Timișoara between 1st -25th of October, 2024.
The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, carried out by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture's budget.
