In the summer of 1945, the local committee of the United Trade Unions of Timișoara set up the nucleus of the permanent theatre company made up of amateur actors from the trade union teams and graduates of the Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts in Cluj, which operated from 1940-1948, in refuge in Timișoara, with Lilly Bulandra as its permanent teacher.

In an address to the local committee of the United Trade Unions of Timișoara to the Ministry of Arts, Bucharest, on 27 September 1945, the decision was expressed to set up a "workers' theatre with a drama and comedy section". The official opening of the first season takes place on 25 December 1945 with the premiere of the play Ion al Vădanei by N. Kirițescu, directed by Lilly Bulandra.
