Stefan Petrică was born in Resita, lives and works in Timisoara. He studied Painting at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the West University of Timisoara. In the last 14 years, he has evolved as an artist according to rules built by a consistent work routine with a rigorous discipline. From gestural to geometric, from synthetic to organic, his research is based on transformation and plastic experimentation in relation to the spatiality, materiality and chromaticism of abstract forms on canvas and paper. Ștefan Petrică is always looking for new ways to provoke perception through abstract, monumental compositions, without deviating from a clear evolutionary thread.
His style can be recognized by a few elements: dots and spots of vibrant color juxtaposed on rigorous and repetitive parallel lines drawn on large surfaces. He uses mixed media, acrylic, oil or gouache. The artist carefully explores ways and techniques of rendering abstract forms, from studies of microscopic life to lines and compositions reminiscent of geometric space or molecular phenomena. The structures of his paintings are similar to processes and principles of biogenesis or abstract thinking transposed visually.
Ștefan Petrică is co-founder of the Avantpost platform where he has been active for nine years, participating in exhibitions in alternative spaces in Timișoara and across the country. He has collaborated with Galeria 418 in Bucharest, exhibited in Rueil Malmaison, France, in 2023 on the occasion of the anniversary of the twinning with the city of Timișoara, and participated in the Artissima art fair in Turin, also exhibited in Serbia, Austria, France, USA, Germany and Belgium.
