Bogdan Tomșa is an artist born in 1989 in Arad, lives and works in Timisoara. With studies in painting, Bogdan has expanded his practice towards installation, digital art and video, exploring narratives on the borderline between the analog and the digital world. In his practice, Bogdan searches for the nuances and contradictions of the contemporary world, which he archives as testimonies of human experience in the form of paintings, assemblages or ephemeral digital images. Member of the Kinema Ikon group since 2013 and co-founder of the Avantpost.ro platform where he has been active for 9 years, he has contributed to the development of the contemporary art scene in Timisoara.
He participated in the projects: Becoming Connected (Art Encounters, 2015), Hidden Agenda (Scena 9 Residency, 2016), UniversAllowed (Fabrica de Baterii, 2017), Seeing Time (Kunsthalle Bega, 2018), Oasis. Green Identity (Stațiunea Tinerilor Naturaliști, 2021), Hyperstezia (Bastion, 2023). Through his explorations, Tomșa tackles subjects that represent multiple perspectives of the imagination and uses various techniques with which he experiments to discover new aesthetics, working both abstract and figurative from his core practice, oil painting. The artist documents and archives process as an integral part of his artistic practice, seeking new contexts and spaces in which to work and actively contribute to. He is interested in collective curatorial and artist-run processes, that's why he is active in the frameworks created by kinema ikon, Avantpost, Lapsus.
