Participants were invited to discover the fascinating world of mycelium and explore the ways in which it can be used to create durable and solid forms. They became familiar with the remarkable characteristics of mycelium and its transformative potential in the construction industry, learning about its industrial strength, impressive durability, and unique ability to be compostable and biodegradable. Through practical examples and guided discussions by Lore Ilie, the students gained a better understanding of how mycelium can change the paradigm of sustainable construction, revolutionizing the way we build our world.

Over the course of an intense day, participants were guided through the process of designing and planning a public construction made from mycelium bricks, drawing inspiration from the unique characteristics of this material.

Building houses from mycelium may seem like an unusual concept at first glance, but in reality, this approach brings multiple essential benefits, especially in terms of reducing our ecological footprint. Thus, students were encouraged to explore this unconventional perspective, designing and drawing their own constructions, inspired by previous discussions.

Once the plans were outlined, the second part of the workshop was dedicated to practical experimentation and implementation of concepts. Students became true builders, turning their ideas into reality by creating unique mycelium blocks with surprising shapes and textures.

The forms resulting from this workshop are set to be presented in the form of an art installation.

The workshop is part of POD - Program of Observation and Discovery, a new project implemented by the Foc și Pară Association, Indecis artist run space, in partnership with Rudolf Walther Secondary School and Secondary Schools 1 and 4 in Timișoara.
