#DEBATE 2 – Theatre`s Dual Role: A Platform for Innovation and a Path to Healing

The ARTMEDIA Cultural Foundation and FAINA UA Association continue the series of events under the Sunlight Over Borders project by offering the public a new debate titled "Theatre's Dual Role: A Platform for Innovation and a Path to Healing".

The debate will explore the role of theatre as a means of cultural restoration and international collaboration. The event will feature special guests who are experts in the fields of theatre and psychology.

Oleksandr Stepantsov is a director and acting professor with extensive experience in Ukrainian theatre. He currently directs at the prestigious Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theatre, where he has contributed his creative vision for the past five seasons. He is also dedicated to training the next generation of actors and teaches acting at the I. K. Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film, and Television in Kyiv.

Olena Drobna is a renowned set designer with over 80 productions completed in Ukraine, Germany, and Canada. As the chief set designer at the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theatre in Kyiv, Olena will discuss how scenographic art can aid collective healing and build new bridges between cultures.

Cosmin Gheorghe, an international consultant and speaker, will address the connection between culture, technology, and their influence on human choices and emotions. An expert in Cultural Intelligence, he will highlight how theatre can become a catalyst for international collaboration.

Ana Maria Ursu, a prominent figure in contemporary theatre in Timișoara, known for her involvement in socially themed theatre projects, will speak about how theatre can open essential dialogues in society and support marginalized groups.

Sunlight Over Borders is an innovative project aimed at young people and the general public in Timișoara, actively involving the Ukrainian community in the city. The project seeks to create a space for reflection and collaboration between practitioners from Romania and Ukraine, with the goal of developing a impactful theatrical co-production.

The Sunlight Over Borders project focuses on the theme of war and its impact on communities, inviting the public to reflect on how theatre can create connections between people and cultures. The discussion will be an opportunity to talk about the power of theatre to heal, innovate, and build international solidarity.

The debate is organized by the ARTMEDIA Cultural Foundation in collaboration with Faina UA Association. 

Partners: Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theatre, the Faculty of Music and Theatre, and the Faculty of Arts and Design at West University of Timișoara, and FLIGHT FESTIVAL.

The Sunlight Over Borders project is implemented by the ARTMEDIA Cultural Foundation and FAINA UA, with support from the IZOLYATSIA Foundation, Trans Europe Halles, and Malý Berlín, and co-financed by the ZMINA: Rebuilding program created with the support of the European Union, within a dedicated call for proposals to support displaced Ukrainians and the Cultural and Creative Sectors in Ukraine.
