Exhibition Opening Bengal Nights: Romanticized Imagination of the Otherness. Exhibition Opening

The Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU), the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb and the Interart Triade Foundation invite you at Cazarma U, Friday, November 3rd, at 6:00 PM for the opening of the exhibition BENGAL NIGHTS: Romanticized Imagination of the Otherness.

The exhibition’s concept is based on Mircea Eliade’s misunderstanding of Hindu culture, family hierarchy, gender issue and cast structures as depicted in his novel "Maitreyi - Bengal Nights," initially published in Romanian in 1933.

Curated by Croatian Josip Zanki, the exhibition unites artists from various global corners, addressing the subject of cultural otherness and intricate cultural relations through interdisciplinary art, sound installations, and participative artistic practices. It offers an opportunity to delve into the communication and mutual understanding between Latin American and East/Central European cultures, reminiscent of the complex relationship between Eliade and Devi.

The exhibition is organized into three thematic sections, situated in three distinct rooms on the ground floor of Cazarma U. It features Mexican artists Manolo Cocho, Leonardo Martínez, Daniela Leyva, Peruvian artist Alejandra Gutierrez Ballón, Colombian artist Esneider Gamboa Burbano, Croatian artists Bojan Gagić and Ivan Fijolić, Austrian artist Luise Kloos, and Romanian artists Larisa Crunțeanu and Megan Dominescu.

The exhibition will be open for viewing from November 3rd to November 30th, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Additionally, group bookings can be made in advanced for Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The exhibition is generously sponsored by Zoppas Industires Romania.

With the support of: Catena, Cerealcom, UnicreditBank & Cramele Recas.

Admission is free of charge.
