*foundationClass with Nadira Husain and Krishan Rajapakshe

Nadira Husain and Krishan Rajapakshe will present *foundationClass - an art education program of the Weißenesee Academy of Art and Design in Berlin, designed for those who have experienced uprooting or had to migrate, focusing on the BIPoC (Black, Indigenous & People of Color).

The purpose of the program is to open access to art and design education for people who do not have access to art universities in Germany.

This event is part of Art me. If you feel like it #1.

_______

Nadira Husain (she/her), is a teacher and mentor at *foundationClass since 2017, teaching mainly painting, extended painting and drawing. Her artistic practice explores through visual forms issues related to post-migration, transculturality and cultural hybridity. In addition to *fC, she is a visiting professor at UdK, where she teaches together with Marina Naprushkina. In addition, she is regularly involved in collective self-organizing initiatives and projects that seek to operate in the field of art from anti-racist and intersectional perspectives. He comes from a multicultural background - Indian, Muslim and French.

Krishan Rajapakshe (they/them), is an artist and designer. Born and raised in Sri Lanka, currently based in Berlin. As an artist, his drawings and design practices are negotiated by producing images with counter-narratives and translating them into publication formats in the context of migration. He has been an art and design educator at *foundationClass since 2019 and taught as a visiting professor at the Weißenesee Art Academy in Berlin in 2021/22. He sees in collaborative artistic practices ways to make politics and friends and to make aesthetics a common good. He is one of the founding members of the magazine Zick, published in Dresden, of the ColorfulVoices collective in Berlin and a member of the *foundationClass collective.

This project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in the year 2023" and is funded by the City of Timișoara, through the Center for Projects.
