Opening weekend | after SCULPTURE / SCULPTURE after

Fundația TRIADE cordially invites you to the opening weekend of "after SCULPTURE / SCULPTURE after", taking place from the 4th to the 7th of May. Join us for a weekend brimming with engaging dialogues, social events, and an array of artistic experiences, all dedicated to exploring the captivating questions surrounding the world of sculpture. Admission is free for the entirety of opening weekend.

The curatorial concept unifying these events stems from the notion that in contemporary art, the three-dimensional object has transcended its condition and boundaries.

In this context, the curatorial selection will consider artistic productions grounded in the sculptural object, which aim to extend its temporal, spatial, or meta-spatial dimensions through forms of expression such as intervention in the ambient space, site-specific installation, Land Art like interventions, the object augmented by computerised technologies, performance, or relational art.

This kaleidoscopic presentation of the evolution of Romanian sculpture will be accomplished through four permanent exhibitions, open to the public starting with May 4th:
  1. Monumental and Ephemeral Exhibition, curated by Ioana Vlasiu, takes on the historic and thematic perspective of Romanian sculpture, starting with one of its archetypes - the column. This exhibition presents multiple aspects of the column in Romanian sculpture, showcasing the works of artists such as Mircea Cantor, Andrei Cădere, Ioana Ciocan, Reka Csapo Dup, Doru Covrig, Darie Dup, Teodor Graur, Grupul Sigma, Peter Jacobi, Peter Jecza, Aurelia Mihai, David Morar, Ciprian Mureșan, Paul Neagu, Ion Nicodim, Mihai Olos, Alexandru Păsat, Silvia Radu, Mircea Roman, Elena and Marcel Scutaru, Virgil Scripcariu, Aurel Vlad, and Victoria Zidaru.
  2. Responsive Matter Exhibition, curated by Alina Șerban, focuses on working with materials that are not in the classical realm of sculpture and how they are used to respond to the artistic concept, highlighting new forms of interpretation and perception of sculpture in its extended version. The selected artists are Nimbert Ambrus, Alexandra Satmari, Dan Vezentan, Adrian Kiss, and Ioana Sisea.
  3. Volume through Layers Exhibition, curated by Ciprian Mureșan, proposes a dialogue between artists in each exhibition space. Thinking of sculpture as a process of adding or subtracting layers, using various methods to bring out the desired form, the curatorial project symbolically transfers this idea, imagining added conceptual layers that can change the function of objects. The invited artists are Andrea Anghel, Marieta Chirulescu, Norbert Costin, Mihai Iepure-Gorski, Istvan Laszlo, Mihnea Mircan, Adriana Popescu, Silvia Radu, Cristian Rusu, and Paul Stoie.
  4. Spark in the Dark Exhibition, curated by Nathalie Hoyos and Rainald Schumacher, is realized with the support of the Asortymentna Kimnata Association and aims to connect the idea of ruin, symbolized through Ukraine’s experience, with that of revitalization through art. The exhibition is designed as an organism in constant growth and transformation, which occupies and redefines the exhibition space. The invited artists for the creative residences are Luka Basov & Krystyna Melnyk, Maria Leonenko & Anna Potyomkina, Oksana Pohrbennyk-Tishenko, Mariia Rusinkevych, Karina Synytsia / Sievierodonetsk. Guests: Radu Cioca and Alex Miruțiu.
Funding for this project is provided by the Municipality of Timișoara through Center for Projects Timișoara and Timis County Council.
