The UNITER Awards Gala is an event that recognizes excellence in Romanian theatre, its vitality and modernity. Initiated in 1992 and held without interruption, the UNITER Awards Gala is the annual event that recognizes the value of the artists and performances of the past theatre season. Similar to galas such as the Caesar, Moliere or the Oscars, the UNITER Awards Gala is a competitive event that operates on the principle of nominations and awards given in a gala show, broadcasted live by national television and radio stations, as well as on the Internet.
The awarding of prizes is done according to the principle of nominations put forth by a Jury made up of theater critics. In the evening of the Gala, another Jury, made up of personalities from the theatrical life, decides by secret vote, from among the nominated, the winner of each Award.
The prizes decided on the evening of the Gala by the final Jury from the three nominations are:
Best Show; Best director (”Lucian Pintilei” Award); Best scenography; Best actor in a leading role; Best actress in a leading role; Best supporting actor; Best supporting actress; Theater criticism (”George Banu” Award); Debut; Radio theater; Best Romanian dramatic text staged in absolute premiere.
The UNITER SENATE decides the awards for entire activity – actor, actress, direction, scenography, ”Ion Caramitru” excellence award, as well as the special awards.
The award ceremony takes place in a Gala show that has become a landmark not only for the theater community in the country, but also for business circles, the public and, above all, for local and regional authorities.
The UNITER Awards Gala show is also an important factor in bringing value and promoting cultural heritage.

This year's UNITER Gala will be glittering, as befits a Gala.
Together with Dragoș Buhagiar we will try to bring a Golden Age of Hollywood perfume in a sumptuous Art Deco setting.
Four actor-presenters, four young voices will bring the show from famous pages of musicals – a genre which I cultivate - with a lot of humor, winking nostalgically to the New Year's Eve television shows of old.
