The Tale of Four Cities (Premiere)

The Common Heritage - The Tale of Four Cities project is coming to an end! ✨

We invite you to join us on December 16, from 5 p.m., at the closing event, where we will present the movie The Tale of Four Cities and launch the publication Secession Detail - A Common Heritage.

The Common Heritage project aims to identify common elements of architectural heritage and celebrate the cultural diversity that characterizes the cities of Timișoara, Subotica, Szeged and Odesa. Interestingly, although separated by borders, they share the same decorative elements of the Secession style, specific to the period of the 1900s. The project included both a research and visual arts component, both of which can be found in the book Secession Detail - A Common Heritage.

The Secession Detail publication tells the story of the Secession current in the four cities, includes illustrations created by Bogdan Gărgăriță and Maria Poștea and articles that deal together with the architectural elements from the cities involved.

The movie The Tale of Four Cities is made by George Predoiu and is an experimental video production, in which the history of the four cities intertwine, and the differences become almost imperceptible.

The program of the event:

  • 17:00 - The release of the non-narrative documentary The Tale of Four Cities, followed by a Q&A session
  • 18:00 - Launch of the Secession Detail - A Common Heritage publication. The publication will be presented by university professor, doc. Ileana Pintilie-Teleagă, followed by a panel with her and guests: Lucia Leca (National Heritage Institute, guest author of the publication), Mihai Moldovan (Prin Banat Association, Common Heritage - The Tale of Four Cities project manager), Bogdan Gărgăriță (Intaglio Publishing House, co-initiator of the Detail series).
Organized by the Association Prin Banat, the Common Heritage - The Tale of Four Cities project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is financed by the European Echoes program, run by the Centrul de Proiecte Timișoara, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of Ministerul Culturii.
