Timișoara: Free City, Free Spirit | TOKYO, JAPAN

In November, the Timișoara 2023 Association invites everyone interested to participate in a special event organized in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute, dedicated to promoting the National Cultural Program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and will take place on November 11, 2023, at Tokyo, Isetan Men's, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. (local hour).

The primary purpose of the event is to inform the cultural community in Tokyo about the details of the Timișoara 2023 Program - European Capital of Culture, to facilitate connections between Romanian artists and cultural networks in Japan, thus promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences, and to provide Japanese journalists with the necessary resources to promote Timișoara 2023 to the Japanese public.

The collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute will provide an authentic experience to the community in Japan through the artist Victor Vulpe, winner of the World Championships in Shoemaking 2023. The Romanian artist will present his award-winning works and coordinate a thematic workshop open to the specialized public and the general public.

Victor Vulpe is a Faculty of Fine Arts and Design graduate from Timișoara (class of 2000).

He is a shoe artist, considered among Romania's best and most original. In 2019, he secured fourth place globally at the World Championships in Shoemaking in London, and at this year's edition, he claimed the silver medal.

Victor Vulpe's creations and the other two winning works will begin a year-long world tour, visiting significant capitals on all continents, starting in November 2023 in Japan.

The event is part of the priority cultural program Communication of the Timișoara Program - European Capital of Culture 2023, funded by the Ministry of Culture.
