About the MEMORY JOURNAL

The Memory Journal workshop offers an artistic intervention in the form of a creative workshop focused on the theme of migration. It is dedicated to creating textile elements inspired by the memory of forgotten objects, lost due to migration, in a profound and sensitive setting connected with the personal and collective history of those affected.

Participants are encouraged to bring with them a personal or family story about an object forgotten or lost during migration. They may even bring a piece of meaningful textile material they can recycle. Each session begins with a moment of reflection where participants share the story of the object, its emotional and symbolic value. They then choose materials and techniques to reinterpret that object.

The workshop provides an artistic opportunity to learn the art of textiles and also serves as a space for collective healing. Participants can process pain and memories through creation, transforming personal and collective memories into works of art. Each textile piece becomes a silent testament to past suffering, but also a proof of survival, resilience, and human recovery, based on memory and emotion. The workshop is designed for people who want to transform the memory of a lost or forgotten beloved object due to migration into a tangible form through textile art. Participants will learn to create three-dimensional or two-dimensional textile elements. These creations can be made through sewing or painting with special materials for durability over time.
