The "Ion Vidu" National College of Art originates in the rich and long musical tradition of Timișoara. On 30 October 1906, the Municipal Council approved the establishment of the Municipal Conservatory. Between 1946 and1948 it functioned as a Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Art. Between 1948-1950 it was a higher level Art Institute directed by Sabin Drăgoi. In 1950 it was transformed into the Middle Technical School of Music, and in 1957 into the School of Music and Fine Arts. In 1968 it moved to a modern building designed by the Timisoara architect Hans Fackelmann, in collaboration with his wife, architect Aurelia Fackelmann, where it still operates today.
