In the cultural and artistic field, the French Institute of Timisoara develops Franco-Romanian collaborations and promotes cultural diversity, with a focus on film, books, debates of ideas and performing arts. The Institute organizes or supports about thirty events annually, the highlights being the Night of Philosophy, the French Film Festival, the French Day People's Ball, the Humour Film Days and the street performing arts festival Impuls.
The Institute is developing a sustained policy aimed at young people: in addition to French courses adapted to children, it regularly offers animations, holiday clubs and more than 300 workshops each year. The Dwarfs' Cottage, a fairytale weekend organised every year in May at the Institute with over 50 local partners, is one of the biggest events for children in Timisoara.
