In the unique year 2023, when Timișoara is the European Capital of Culture, Her City, Our Europe pays tribute to the women who have left their mark on Timișoara's culture and those who have fought for European unity. By proposing a journey through lesser-known stories woven from the dreams of our predecessors, we reconfigure the history, culture, and geography of the city, called upon to represent cultural Europe, and reclaim its feminine dimension. At the end of this endeavor, which will reconnect women with a history of the place and Europe they have never been absent from, technology will illuminate the invisible threads that bind us in unknown and surprising ways, in a shared story about the ideal of a fairer, freer, more equitable world.
Throughout this surprising journey through feminine Timișoara and Europe, our guide will be the feminist generation of tomorrow, to whose growth and development the entire Timișorean public is invited to witness. Thus, we continue the mentoring of high school girls, begun in the previous year through the FEM project.
Three unprecedented, relevant, and participatory cultural experiments offered to the general public will contribute to shaping a common, European identity in the name of an inclusive future, in which women are an integral and indivisible part of the local and European cultural community.
Behind the conventional image, Timișoara hides unexplored profiles and stories still untold. HerCity will offer an alternative view of the city, a feminine itinerary capable of transcending the reductionist and partial approach of mass tourism, originated in a history written almost exclusively by men, a route that will reconnect women with the past and present of a history and urban culture closer to the truth, acknowledging and informing about the contribution of local women to the local cultural heritage.
HerEurope makes visible women's contribution to European construction, presenting them to the Timișorean public in a virtual exhibition that pays tribute to their vision and dreams of a democratic, solidary, and, above all, united Europe with a common culture.
We celebrate, recognize, and honor not only Melina Mercouri's initiative, to whom we owe the "European Capital of Culture" project, thanks to which Timișoara can shine today for the whole world, but also the energy, courage, and motivation of all our predecessors, whose experiences complete our common biography. HerParty is an artistic musical event supported by fearless women who have approached unconventional music genres (DNB), for the women who inspire and stregthen us and are true models.
The project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Inside Timișoara 2023 programme, implemented by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
