Synopsis:
An American tourist comes to Timisoara to look for his roots. He stops at the library and comes across Maria, a librarian, who has the same last name and so they might be related. Studying various books, they travel back in time to different historical periods of Timișoara. The journeys are enlivened by music and dance, clever choreography, costumes and sets. Characters from the past as well as different ethnicities, spoken languages and musical themes take the audience on a journey from the past, real and fantastic, mirrored in the present. We discover an effervescent picture, with guilds, craftsmen, even mayors of a growing city. Step by step, we remember the great achievements and events of the past that made Timișoara one of the most famous places of that time. We are introduced to a romantic, tragic and comic story at the same time. Ion Petrea, a photographer, falls in love with Elizabeth, from a wealthy family raised on piano lessons and balls. She has other suitors - Ioszef, Faber, Blașko, Stefan, an Hungarian officer, a Serb, a Jew, a Romanian. The two fall in love, but have no chance of being accepted by society. In the end, they marry secretly and decide to go to America. Elizabeth waits for him on the train, but Ion is recruited and does not arrive. She goes to America alone and he stays in Europe. The overall message of the play, beyond the love story, is that we belong to a diverse but united community, and that people's destinies intertwine in subtle and often unexpected ways.
