End of Summer Fiesta: Closing event ILUSTRAD/AS & DJ Set Petit Comité

After a full summer at HEI - House of European Institutes and two months in a generous space provided by the Municipality of Timisoara through the Project Centre, the organizers of the HEI project, together with the Timisoara public, are celebrating the end of summer with an event dedicated to local illustrators from Timișoara and an extremely danceable evening with music provided by Petit Comité.

The closing event aims, in addition to making possible an exchange of ideas and best practices between the Spanish illustrator present at the finish and the illustrators from Banat, the presentation of a project initiated by House of European Institutes (HEI) and coordinated by the artists Sorina Vazelina and Mălina Cristea. It is about a map presenting illustrators and graphic designers from Banat, a work in progress project - the fruit of an approach that meets the objective of House of European Institutes (HEI) and EUNIC Romania, to promote local culture, by launching the map mapping professionals in the field.

In this context, Helena Perez Garcia, an illustrator from Spain whose work was exhibited in the Ilustrad/as exhibition, will be present. The work of Helena Pérez García, born in Seville, has been published in magazines, newspapers and books for children and adults. She also works for the advertising and packaging industries, both nationally and internationally. Her clients include The Body Shop, Penguin Books, BBC, Tate Publishing, Elle, Financial Times, Reader's Digest and National Geographic. She is also the author of three picture books: "Louna au Musée", "Bonne Nuit, Louna!" (Les Petites Bulles Éditions) and "Cuentan Los Bosques" ("Tres Tigres Tristes").

On 1 September we will have the following programme:

  • 18:00 - Launch of the map made by artists Sorina Vazelina and Mălina Cristea, in the presence of the mapped illustrators.
  • 19:00 - Discussion led by artist Sorina Vazelina with Spanish illustrator Helena Perez Garcia about the dynamics of the job market for illustrators and graphic designers, useful tips for graphic designers/illustrators who are just starting out or for those who want to re-professionalise in this field but don't dare to make a major change in their lives yet.
  • 20:30 - Dancing evening connecting to the beats of reggaeton, with Petit Comité, DJ Set, "El espectro del antiguo y nuevo reggaeton".

Also visiting us for the first time on 1 September is The Secret Garden Bookshop, a small pop-up bookshop where you can buy or browse a selection of publications about local illustration projects.

The 1 September event at HEI - House of European Institutes takes place in the context of the exhibition of Spanish illustration by women "Ilustrad/as. A look at female creation in contemporary Spanish illustration", which brings together 12 internationally renowned female artists from Spain and Chile. The exhibition can be visited until 1 September at HEI - House of European Institutes, located in Bastion 1 in Timișoara.

The project is proposed by HEI - House of European Institutes for Timisoara 2023 and is carried out by the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest, in partnership with the Spanish Embassy in Romania.

The project is part of the National Cultural Programme "Timisoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded by the European Echoes programme, run by the Timisoara City Council Project Centre, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture budget. It is organized in partnership with the Municipality of Timișoara through the Project Centre.
