Uni-form: Akira Kawasaki

Akira Kawasaki is a young artist, musician and film director. He grew up in Fukuoka, Japan and in Santa Monica, United States. After graduating from Musashino Art University in Tokyo, he moved to Berlin where he lives and studies.

Her project Uni-form is an ongoing artistic research that examines school uniform through the lens of strict Japanese dress codes, reinforced by 風紀方, or "moral inspection."

These outfits turn male students, but especially female students, into icons of popular culture and are also a good starting point for explaining the public's apathy towards politics, patriarchy, misogyny, nationalism, racism, classism, anti-queerness and the list goes on.

This event is part of Artă-mă. Reintroduction to artistic education #4.

The event is part of "Outside the school" a component of the Horizons of Knowledge route (along with Kinema Ikon, Asociația Foc si Pară / Indecis and Asociația Doar Maine) of the Cultural Program "Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture" and is financed by the Municipality Timișoara through the Project Center.

Co-financed by A.F.C.N. through the multiannual program Artă-ma. Reintroduction to art education.

With the support of Eu-Japan Fest.
