Teatrul Senzorial is a youth organization, being the only cultural entity in Romania working purely with an innovative theatre method called Sensory Labyrinth Theatre (SLT).

The mission of our Association is to combat mental health degradation in the urban area and to promote participatory art, art therapy and processes of personal development through art, the values of artistic volunteering and non-formal learning methods, through organising and implementing cultural events.

SLT is an immersive theatre method that extends the rules of classical theatre by redefining the performance space and the relationship between actor and spectator. The performance takes the form of a labyrinth, in which the spectator travels and participates in a series of 1-on-1 meetings with the actors, being transposed into contexts that address various social, moral or philosophical themes. In order to guide their attention to the other senses, the spectators are blindfolded and the ‘stage’ thus moves into their imagination. TSL is a form of theatre with therapeutic values that invites the spectator to moments of internal reflection as a non-formal learning tool. Also, most of the actors are amateurs, chosen from the audience, and the participatory process of the method creates strong bonds between members, leading to the construction of a new sense of community.

The experience is unique and supports the lifelong development of all participants, both through their involvement in co-creative artistic processes and through the increased social cohesion implicit in these activities. Young people benefit most, as the SLT method is accredited as a method with a strong impact on non-formal learning.
