DINAM Extension - Drum'n'Basme

As part of the DINAM contemporary dance season, there will be 4 performances of the audio-video performative installation "Drum'n'Basme" created by DJ George Allen, together with a visual artist and a narrator, followed by sound mixing workshops for different audiences, with the artist.

The concept behind the installation is represented by the fairy tale - as a factor of cohesion between generations. Thus, the artistic team will create a fairy tale experience, with the help of various means, both vintage (vinyl records played with the help of the pick-up and live narration) and contemporary (sound processing software, video projections, light design ). A unique aspect of this project is the merging of stories recorded on vinyl records with electronic music genres, such as: boom bap/instrumental beats/lo-fi/downtempo/trip hop/ethnic electronica/world music, thus outlining a dialogue between different periods of time and generations of people. The duration of the audio-video performative installation is approx. 60 minutes.

Mixing workshops by George Allen will follow each performance of the installation. Participants will register for the workshops by filling in an online form, and after the public presentation of the installation they will stay at the workshop. During the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to work with the equipment used in the installation under the supervision of George Allen. He will hold an introductory course in the field of sound mixing, focusing on explaining the process of working on the installation but also on elementary techniques of processing and harmonizing sound. The duration of a workshop is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The project is part of the national cultural programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Inside Timișoara 2023 programme, implemented by the Center for Projects Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
