The project 'Jazz and Social Life in Communism' is a continuation of the 'Sound Archive', the most important audio podcast for music and social commentary in Romania, which in 2024 addresses the history of local and regional jazz music. This project explores the history and cultural and social impact of the jazz movement in Romania during the communist period, with a focus on jazz produced in Timișoara and on international connections, especially with musicians from the former Yugoslavia. The project includes research into the local history of Timișoara jazz in relation to the social life of Timișoara, two multimedia exhibitions, accompanied by artistic interventions, held in the cities of Timișoara and Zagreb, two public discussions focused on the recent history of jazz (Timișoara & Zagreb) and two musical auditions (Timișoara & Zagreb). Through this project, the Dialectic Center aims to cultivate and promote the spirit of freedom through immersion in the world of jazz.
The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is funded through the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, carried out by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture's budget.
