As with the other eight editions of the Eurothalia European Theatre Festival, the ninth will feature a selection of performances and related events produced by some of Europe's leading theatres and artists, with productions relevant to the major themes of 2023. Eurothalia's mission is to explore innovative, European trends in the performing arts, and then to present in Timisoara theatrical forms as diverse as contemporary drama or classical texts staged in a contemporary style, documentary theatre or theatre with socio-political stakes, animation theatre or puppet theatre, innovative theatrical formats expressed through new media and performative elements. Thus, by diversifying artistic communication, the festival explores innovative dimensions of theatrical language. The festival programme aims to confront audiences with intergenerational views of the world. This year's edition around the motto „Perspectives” seeks to explore different perspectives of appreciation and approach to theatrical formats and theatre-mediated stories, with the intention of reimagining the surrounding world through the living filter of theatre.
This project is part of the national cultural Programme “Timișoara - European Capital of Culture 2023” and is funded through the Theatre Artistic Excellence programme, carried out by the Cultural and Art Center of Timiș County, with funds allocated from the state budget through the Ministry of Culture.
