The objective of the project is to question the value of wooden cultural heritage as a mediator (connector) between: past - present, local cultures - European cultures, rural - urban society, craft - contemporary art, tangible - intangible heritage, place - cultural landscape, people of different professions - ages - accessible and inclusive for vulnerable groups. The proposed urban installation, represents the concept of the project, in the sense that a traditional skeletal structure (part of a conservation school process) will be decontextualized to become (in Timisoara) a universal symbol of wooden heritage.
It will take on the role of a European cultural mediator, through the actors and the activities and events that will be hosted. Wooden cultural heritage will be presented as a Total Cultural Act. Events are proposed with the objective of promoting, raising awareness, challenging the public in heritage dialogue, hands-on participation, inclusion and interaction with heritage through contemporary art.
The proposed events will take place both in Timisoara and around several wooden churches in Banat, especially around the burnt church of Povergina, where the Wooden Churches Association has been developing for two years the project Wooden Cultural Heritage School. We hope that as a result of this project, in Timisoara, a visible trace will remain through contemporary art of the roots of our culture, part of the European family of wood, that we will be better connected to the cultural landscape of Banat, and that the events around the wooden churches will become a model and a tradition.
The proposed project is first of all a living one, raising awareness, creatively involving society in the process of enhancing the wooden cultural heritage of Banat/Romania, an integral part of Europe's wooden cultural heritage, for the benefit of the communities.
